Magnitude 7.5 Earthquake Hits Western Japan

At Least Four Dead, Tsunami Warnings Issued

Magnitude 7.1 Aftershock Registered Off Kyushu Coast

A powerful earthquake measuring magnitude 7.5 struck western Japan early Monday morning, triggering tsunami warnings and causing significant damage. As of Thursday, at least four people have been confirmed dead as a result of the temblor.

According to Japan's Meteorological Agency, the quake struck at 4:42 pm ET off the coast of Miyazaki Prefecture at a depth of about 6 miles. The agency has issued tsunami warnings for coastal areas, although no major damage or injuries have been reported from the waves.

Meanwhile, a strong aftershock measuring magnitude 7.1 was recorded on Thursday morning off the eastern coast of Kyushu at a depth of approximately 30 miles. No additional casualties have been reported from the aftershock.

Officials are still assessing the extent of the damage caused by the earthquake. Buildings have been damaged, roads have been blocked, and power outages are affecting thousands of households.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has warned that the risk of a larger earthquake remains elevated, and residents have been advised to be prepared for further tremors.
